Teacher award for Roelof Koekoek

prize ceremony 2006 On Tuesday, June 13, 2006 I was invited to the prize ceremony for the annual design contest of Mechanical Engineering in order to receive a prize for best teacher. I was awarded by Leeghwater for best teacher 2006 in the second-year category. The election of teacher of the year in the categories first-year, second-year and third-year was held for the second year in a row by the mechanical engineering association Gezelschap Leeghwater.

Later these awards were replaced by certificates and accompanying cake or pie for best teacher in each quarter in the earlier mentioned categories. For me this honour was fallen to the share five times so far. An outline:

On Wednesday June 20, 2018 I was invited once more to receive a prize for best teacher. After twelve years I was again elected as teacher of the year in the second-year category by the students. The prize ceremony was at the Markt in the centre of Delft. During the annual design contest the three teachers of the year in the categories first-year, second-year and third-year were celebrated by the mechanical engineering association Gezelschap Leeghwater.

Quote from www.tudelft.nl/en/2018/3me/juli/3me-lecturer-of-the-year-2017-2018:

"Roelof is a great lecturer with a passion for teaching. The material is difficult sometimes, but he makes sure that students stay concentrated. He also keeps classes light by suddenly throwing in holiday pictures among the slides. Roelof knows how to think like a student when solving problems, which makes the examples extremely clear and applicable. A student once asked a question about the ‘U’ component, to which Roelof replied, ‘You can say "jij" to me.'"
