Designing free-form optics for multiple source illumination using differentiable ray-tracing and neural networks
Bart de Koning

Site of the project: TU Delft
Supervisor TU Delft: Matthias Moller and Aurele Adam (Optics group)

start of the project: December 2021

In March 2022 the Interim Thesis has appeared and a presentation has been given.

The Master project has been finished in August 2022 by the completion of the Masters Thesis and a final presentation has been given.

For working address etc. we refer to our alumnipage.

Summary of the master project:
The project concerns designing lenses consisting of NURBS surfaces to produce desired caustic patterns, for instance for streetlights. The lenses are simulated using differentiable ray-tracing, to allow backpropagation of the caustic loss to a neural network that provides the NURBS parameters.
