start of the project: September 2007

In December 2007 the Interim Thesis has been appeared and a presentation has been given.

The Master project has been finished in July 2008 by the completion of the Masters Thesis and a final presentation has been given.

For working address etc. we refer to our alumnipage.

Summary of the master project:

Producing oil and or gas is a very complex process. There are many parameters to choose, such as where to place injector and producer wells, the production rate etc.

At Shell, a simulator is used to approximate the amount of oil and gas that can be produced from a oil or gas field. During the simulation process, many parameters have to be chosen, such as minimum and maximum pressure for respectively producer and injector wells and the desired production/injection rates. To optimize the value of the field with respect to these parameters, a solve backward in time is needed. In this backward system, the adjoint of the original matrix occurs.

The aim of the project is to develop a robust solution method for the problems of the adjoint system as they arise in the code MoReS.
