In May 2010 the Interim Thesis has been appeared and a presentation has been given.

The Master project has been finished in May 2011 by the completion of the Masters Thesis and a final presentation has been given.

Summary of the master project:
Culgi BV seeks assistance in developing advanced numerical linear solvers for gradient based inhomogeneous Phase Field Flow models.

The Phase Field Flow solver must deal with solving gradient-based multiphase mechanical models with strong contrast and non-periodic boundary conditions. Such models occur for example in the context of mesoscopic stability of composite polymer materials. Target applications are the inhomogeneous fluctuating Stokes model, and the inhomogeneous Elastostatic model.

The student is expected to propose, implement and test suitable algorithms. Issues that will be addressed include:
We are asking for students that have strong ambition, that have excellent communication skills, and who want to work in an international multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of C++, scripting languages (tcl, python) and parallel computation is advantageous.

Culgi BV is an international company dedicated to computational chemistry with offices in the Netherlands (Leiden), China and USA. The student will be stationed at Leiden office.

Computational chemical methods range in scale from quantum and molecular (nanometers) to mesoscopic (microns). Applications are very diverse, ranging from designing chemicals for enhanced on oil recovery, to modeling improved eco-friendly detergents, to proposing protocols for processing enhanced drug delivery systems.

Culgi BV collaborates with academia, government agencies, and large chemical, pharmaceutical and oil industries in the US, Europe and China, and participates in various European and Dutch research projects.
