Dynamic rigidity of a beam in a moving contact

Summary. The paper is devoted to the investigation of an equivalent dynamic stiffness of a Timoshenko beam, lying on a visco-elastic foundation and interacting with a uniformly moving point object. A general expression for the equivalent stiffness is obtained. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the equivalent stiffness as a function of the object velocity. Comparison is made of the equivalent stiffness of the Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli beams. It is shown that the Euler-Bernoulli model can not be successfully used as the object velocity exceeds the minimum phase velocity of waves in the beam.
