Transitional radiation in two-dimensional elastic systems

Summary. The transition radiation of elastic waves in a semi-infinite plate laying on an elastic foundation is studied. It is assumed that the point mass, subjected to a constant vertical force and moving uniformly and rectilinear along the plate, is the source of excitation. The spectral-angular density of the radiation energy is found. It is shown that both the magnitude and the direction of the radiation reaction, acting on the mass in the horizontal plane, depend on time non-monotonically. The vertical acceleration of the mass in the process of radiation is analyzed. The range of the system parameters where the break of the contact occurs between the mass and the plate is determined.
